Observations
:
As in most Indian cities the centre
of the city is an explosion. An explosion of all possible
activities. Simultaneously existing times and scales makes
the city a chaos, which is not always a positive one. When
such a chaos takes over, all systems show a collapse. The
multitude of systems are incapacitated, making the city appear
dynamic, vibrant, alive, but beneath these systems there is
a slow decay. Under such situations the systems perform at
much lesser efficiency, as a result of which there is constant
addition of systems, which also eventually are seen incompetant.
This further leads to the overlays of many systems.
Site:
The centre of the city of Pune is
the area called ‘Tuslibaug’ or ‘Mandai’.
‘Mandai’ literally means a central vegetable market
place. Here it is the colonial building built in 1905 which
has been serving as a vegetable market place. A century later,
this area has grown in its density, becoming one of the most
busiest market hubs of the city. The Mandai has acted as a
catalyst for various other activites that sprawl this city
centre. Chaos and confusion is evident here. |
