DESIGNED AND HANDCRAFTED IN COLLABORATION WITH JUZAR LANEWALA , JAYESH GOHEL AND ASHWIN BHARGAV

HANGING CANOPY

The clients here wanted to design a covered canopy over a main party space at their weekend farm house on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. The space as seen was already shaded, and had a nice thick cover of trees. Hence it was decided to make some thing porous a littice type of a structure.

The budget here was limited. We decided to use bamboo splits to build the main frame. As observed the triangular frame made with bamboo splits and the connections were made using bolts and screws. A cane verticle strut was used to give form ot this frame. Once the frame was made the surface was generated on this frame using parachute material which was riveted directly on the bamboo splits.

A total of 50 such units were created which were then assembled on site . the connections between the units are made with steel wire and jute thread. The entire structure is hoisted up using steel wires which are connected to the various branches of the trees. The canopy spans a total of 64 sq mts.

The structure and all its components are hand crafted using the most basic tools available. The structure was designed and the idea conceived with Juzar Lanewala, Mr. Jayesh Gohel and Mr. Ashwin Bhargav helped us buld it. The contributions of the 'gang' need to be mentioned for the hoisting of the same.
