LANDSCAPES FOR PARADISE

The following was an exercise in installation art carried out as a part of a public art event called the Ahmedabad Encounters
The idea of Ahmedabadi Encounters’ 05 was iinitiated in support of one of the major objectives of Ahmedabad Art festival that is to bring public awareness regarding the various expressions of art in life
1. To generate an awareness of new creative ways in which we could explore public spaces.
2. To initiate a dialogue between the artists and the masses.
3. Exploration of alternative spaces for creating works of art by the artists.
4. Start a social , cultural and spatial dialogue between the work and the audience towards the different facets of the Ahmedabad city.
5. Interdisciplinary interaction between artists which would lead to breaking of the stereotypes of definitions and specialized working
.

Landscapes for Paradise

The city is his paradise. Land has carved the city for him to dwell in. All around him are landscapes. Landscapes of tar, concrete, bricks, steel, wood, all creating experiences for the dweller. The dweller all the time looking for a surreal landscape, comes across, the waste of the city. To contrast the waste he brings the pure white. With the two he hopes to create a new landscape for his paradise.

Idea
The idea is to create a landscape in some part of the city using garbage (dry garbage) and plaster bandages. Creating a landscape, which transcends from being an object of admiration alone to becoming an active participant in the larger city-scape.

Material
Dry garbage and plaster bandages

Location
Ahmedabad Civic Centre, opp Roopali Cinema.
